Coastal Cuisine is rapidly making it’s place in the hearts of North Indians and we are loving this trend. Located in the plush neighbourhood of Chanakyapuri is Sanadige. As you enter the property, you see a beautiful lit lamp. That’s where the place derives it’s name from. Sana-Di-Ge stands for a brass lamp in tulu language.
The options for non vegetarians and pescaterians are unlimited in coastal cuisine, but I was rather surprised to see the number of dishes on the menu available for vegetarians. This is not the place where your vegetarian friends have to stick to a dish or two – Sanadige has a plethora of options for vegetarians!
The meal is served in a traditional manner in brass and copper utensils. The meal starts with fresh refreshing kokum drink to prepare your taste buds for what’s coming next.
Paneer Ghee Roast was a beautiful Paneer preparation having a crispy texture on the outside with the flavour of robust spices. The Mushroom Pepper fry, though quite interesting, would not make it to my list of recommendations simply because I didn’t like the flavour of curry leaves with mushrooms.
The Tawa Fry Maanji was probably the finest pomfret preparation I’ve ever tried. The fish was flaky and soft, while the masala was dry and the combination was amazing. The Jenni with Butter Pepper Garlic Sauce had soft tender pieces of meat, but I would strongly recommend you try this crab dish in a pepper fry or masala fry preparation instead. The creamy texture didn’t work for me. A vegetarian alternative to this dish is also available with baby corn in place of crab.
To pair with these, you can opt for malabari parottas, soft airy appams,or the moist paper thin neer dosa.
Saving the best for the last, the desserts. Though we tried a variety of desserts, the clear winner was Elaneer Payassam. Served in an artificial tender coconut,it was subtly sweet and had a strong flavour of tender coconuts. If there is one dessert in heaven,it would be this one. It was absolutely divine.
The food at Sanadige is absolutely spectacular provided you order after thoroughly understanding the dish. The staff is well aware about the menu and that enhances your experience as you have someone to guide you. The ambience is beautiful, and is ideal for a lunch or dinner date with friends and family.
